Cryin’ 😥
But she sure ‘preciates ya! 🎀 Charles Lynn Frost, who brought Sister Dottie to life, died of colon cancer. Such a big loss to Utah’s entertainment scene, and so many friends…
I was honored to be part of an art project with her a few years ago. ❤

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Charles Lynn Frost. He was an epic force in our community. Charles was one of the founding board members of Equality Utah back in 2001. His bold sense of humor and irreverence endeared him to his many friends and fans.

Charles’ acting and directing talents were legion. His stand-out rolls in LGBTQ projects like the Laramie Project at Salt Lake Acting Company, Facing East at Plan B, and the many iterations of the Tuna, Texas series made him a Utah fan favorite. Charles’ beloved character, Sister Dottie S. Dixon was a breakout role on KRCL, that later evolved into a stage play, the Passion of Sister Dottie S. Dixon with Pygmalion Theater. Sister Dottie later went on to become a regular feature on X-96’s popular Radio From Hell.

Before there were Mama Dragons, Sister Dottie challenged the narrative that families had to forever choose the Church over their LGBTQ children. She offered a role-model for Latter-day Saint families to lovingly embrace their LGBTQ children unconditionally. We have no doubt that the many successes our community has experienced in Utah over the past decade are in part because of the heart-opening stories and laughs Sister Dottie shared with her fans.

We offer our love and condolences to Charles’ family, friends and fans. Thank you Charles for sharing your gifts with all of us. You will be missed.

Friends of the Program have been asking us for a while. “Where is Sister Dottie? When is she coming back on the show?? We miss her!” We missed her too…

The character of Sister Dottie, created by our dear friend Charles Lynn Frost, such a bright light for both gay kids and their parents. A beautiful – and hilarious -example of how we can love each other through our differences.

Cancer is a thief. It steals from us in so many corners of our lives. I’m going to make up a big batch of Sister Dottie’s Brownies today for my kids, and remind them that I love them for exactly who they are….

Though our words can do little, we hope our thoughts and prayers will encourage you this period and always as you mourn, the passing soul.

May you find comfort knowing that life continues forever in heaven even as the memories shared live forever in our hearts.

Our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers are with the family and friends.

We encourage you all to respect the dead and accord the family heartbroken with the loss of a cherished one, some privacy as you leave a message in the comment session.
