DRUM CORPS AND INDOOR FRIENDS… I am just learning of the passing of Keith Dawson. I have no clue what the details are, but it seems to be sudden. I was a young 21 year old age out of the Cadets, teaching Star of Indiana when I met Ping and he invited me into his life and we never stopped laughing. I can drive down the street at BOA or DCI in Indy and yell at Ping walking down the street from my car and end up in a restaurant laughing and drinking until they close. Judge with him and giggle all day like that same punk kid from NJ did 35 years ago! We constantly showed up on each other’s FB page to bust chops hard! Always knowing that we genuinely loved each other. We have lost an icon of the band and indoor activity. What a loss. RIP Ping-gala!
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our Alumni family and great friend Ping (Keith) Dawson.
Ping was a trailblazer, a mentor, a marching band, WGI and drum corps icon, and most importantly, a friend to us all. His laugh, his wit and his sayings were legendary, and the people he taught and inspired will ensure his legacy lives on in the generations of students and artists who follow. Today, we and the entire band and drum corps community mourn his loss. Simply put, the world is a much less fabulous place without Ping in it.
