In the midst of the search for Lane, some of his closest friends took a little break and had some drinks and some food and shared a night of stories and memories. We didn’t know for certain at that point, but felt like a living memorial. Alex was wearing one of the famous Uncle Tupelo shirts Lane had made, and I was so struck – couldn’t stop staring at it. The “Lc. Special”, those shirts were conversation starters nationwide.

I remember the first time I met Alex after me and Lane started dating. I believe I met Alex and Jonathan W. on the same night – can you imagine? 😂 At Delilah’s on a Wednesday night, winter in Chicago. I was so nervous – meeting Lane’s closest friend and super intimidated because I was not in the music crowd. Long story short, combination of good people and booze, all seemed to go well, and the night ended with me throwing a snowball at either Alex or Jonathan on the street outside on Lincoln Avenue. ☃️

Lane and Alex always had some kind of electric connection. Watching them interact was like watching the most intelligent and funny and ridiculous comedy radio show you could ever imagine. It never stopped. And they were passionate – would fight and make up like chicks. 😂👯True true friends. ❤️❤️💔💔

Friends – the search for Lane is over. He is at peace, but tragically not in our lives here on earth any longer.

Thank you for your love and support in every way possible these past 2 weeks: for MK, Lane’s family and friends, and me. The outpouring of love and support for Lane was precious to see and feel, and my heart breaks that in his last moments, despite how loved he was, he seemingly felt so alone.

For someone who craved and thrived so much on close, personal, strong, and visceral connections with people and feelings and music — among so many other facets of life — this last year had to have been harder and more agonizing for Lane than many.
Lane was one of the best humans I’ve ever known and ever will know, and I cannot express the deepness of my love for him and how much I’ll miss him in my life. Love and condolences to all of you who feel this intense pain too, especially his girlfriend MK and his family.

I could go on and on about so many memories of Lane. These pictures are how I’ll think of Lane right now. Roadside chicken-coop-type bodega bar in Barbados on a lazy sunny afternoon. Happy as a clam with concert tickets in hand and an evening of music ahead of us. Heading out to kayak in Maryland. Beloved Yunegling in hand. Relaxing on the water in his favorite Yankees hat. Grinning from ear to ear in one of his endless band shirts.
