On May 27, 1987,19-year-old Tammy Tracey disappeared from Searls Park. A year after, her remains were found on April 15, 1988, in the woods at the Sugar River Forest Preserve in Durand.
Tammy Tracey loved to love people, always willing to help everyone around them. Her death left everyone devastated and her mum in shambles trying to decipher the actual circumstances that surrounded her death and also get her justice.
She will be dearly missed by family, loved ones and friends. But continuously living in their hearts and every memory of her.

According to the medical examiner, Tammy Tracey had been stabbed and shot.
For many years, investigators did not have enough evidence to make an arrest regardless of the DNA testing and pieces of evidence at hand. The case was presented to a Winnebago County grand jury in 1989.
And on 19th November 2020, Jesse Smith, 64 years-old, a Mississippi man, was arrested by Georgia authorities, says Chief Deputy Raymond Drennon with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office. Drennon says new evidence led authorities to track Smith to Georgia.

His bond amount was set at $5,000,000.00.Tracey disappeared from Searls Park on May 27th, 1987, where she had gone to wax her car. Later that evening, she failed to meet a family member at Ingersoll Golf Course.
Her remains were found in the Sugar River Forest Preserve on April 15, 1988. Police said she had been shot and stabbed to death.
